There were four x games events during the 2013 season and the final event was at the historic x games spot of Los Angeles. The x games go for four consecutive days, with four different skateboarding events. It is the biggest action sport event in the world that features four different sports. The skateboarding events are women's Street League, Mens Street League and The Big Air Final. These events are for the best athletes in their sport. They spend hundreds of hours in perfecting tricks so that they can win in competitions like the x games.
In the women's Street League they skate on a specially made street course that is similar to skating on the things that you can find on the street or in a plaza. You have three runs that go for 45 seconds, which means that skateboarders need to do their best run in this time. You have to be clean but also technical with your lines which can be extremely difficult with so much pressure of winning on your shoulders. The set up is there are two heats and the top six qualify for the final. The results were Marisa Dal Santo with the bronze, Lacey Baker with the silver and finally Leticia Bufoni with the gold. Bufoni’s run consisted of a number of grind and flat ground tricks, which got her a score of 88.00. Baker who had got the silver was very close with her score of 86.00, her run consisted of many more tricks that were more difficult but her run wasn’t as clean. The woman's street league event is an existing and intriguing event to watch.
The Mens Street League has a different format to the women's event, the women’s is just a singular heat, but the men’s is a single heat plus a major trick on each main obstacle. In the men’s competition there are 4 heats, where the top 8 scoring out of the 4 heats qualify, which has the same format as the women’s event. The results were Luan Oliveira with the bronze, Chris Cole with the silver and Nyjah Huston with the gold. Luan Oliveira and Chris Cole were extremely close, the scores were 44.20 (Luan Oliveira) and 44.60 (Chris Cole). It could've been the slightest bobble which had separated then in scores. Nyjah was a complete stand out in the event with a dominating score of 53.00. He was extremely clean with all his tricks and pulled out all the biggest and best scores. The Men’s Street League is always a stand out event in the X Games.
The Skateboard Big Air Final is one of the biggest and best events of the X Games. The ramp consists of a 12 to 59 metre roll into a 8 to 20 metre gap which you have to clear, then comes a massive quarter pipe which can be anything bigger than 6 metres in height and can send you another 6 metres higher. The event is set out with 8 men having a 20 minute jam session of just doing tricks over the gap and getting scored on.Then another 20 minute jam session of being scored on the gap and the quarter pipe combined. A jam session is where everyone gets as many runs as they can in order so that they all have an equal chance. The medal winners were Bob Burnquist with the bronze with a score of 88.665, Tom Schaar with the silver and a score of 88.83 and finally Elliot Sloan with the gold and a score of 90.165. Once again second and third were extremely close with only 0.235 separating them. This is one of the biggest and most exciting events in the X Games and it’s well worth going to see it.
